DUTERTE: The controversial "strongman" of the Philippines
I am writing this letter to first and foremost, express my heartfelt gratitude. The responsibility that lies on the shoulder of the one who is seated as president is a heavy burden to carry. It is no easy feat to govern the entire country and its affairs; I admire you for taking on this role and being able to lead your fellow countrymen. You aren’t a perfect leader but neither were those before you, I don’t believe that there was a perfect president who governed our country because these people are still humans that make mistakes.
You have achieved a lot during your presidency, and also failed. The campaign against illegal drugs is your most famous and most important achievement, with almost two of every three Filipinos believing the number of drug users in their area has been reduced since you came to power in 2016, crime likewise came down. You are a leader who can get things done by the sheer power of his will – and that of his police and armed force. Honestly speaking sir, I am not thoroughly convinced that all the people arrested during that campaign are guilty of the said crime, your subordinates are not as just and righteous as how we define policemen in the dictionary. I am no expert in the field of politics but from what I’ve watched and read sir, I can say that the methods you use to get things done are morally questionable and are often unjustifiable as it is disregarding basic human rights.
And with the current issues, the country is facing during
these hard times. The response to COVID-19 is one of the longest and
slow-phasing issues to resolve, I only wish and hope that you had handled the
situation more efficiently. You sir and the government should've supported our health workers and found a solution to the shortage of medical
supplies and the lack of funding for these. Where did the government use the supposed health funds provided for our health workers? You clearly disregarded those people who are sacrificing everything to fulfill their oaths and pledges. Our front-liners are underpaid and
overworked, they are dying. Open your eyes to the reality that you are incompetent in handling the current pandemic. Step down. Please listen to the pleas of your people, Mr. President.
Respectfully yours,
Maria Yanina M. Natividad

ReplyDeleteGood day Yanina! You are such an exceptional writer, your blog is very well constructed and easy to read. I agree, President Duterte indeed did a lot for our country, not all are good, not all are bad, some are even questionable. I am also no expert in the field of politics but I do agree that under President Duterte’s term, Human Rights are often disregarded. Your works are very informative and I would love to read more of them, you have gained a supporter here, keep on going up!
